With the Ghana Premier League over last week, all eyes of football enthusiasts will be on Baba Yara Sports stadium tomorrow, 26th June, 2022 as it hosts the grand-final of the MTN FA Cup.

This season’s competition is the 41st edition since the commencement of the competition in 1958. The 2016 champions, Bechem United lock horns with the record 11 times winners and defending champions, Glorious Accra Hearts Of Oak in the grand-final of this season’s domestic cup. Sixteen different teams have been champions in the previous 40 editions of the competition whilst 27 different clubs have played in the finals with Accra Heart of Oak being the most successful club in the competition, winning a record 11 times.

This would be the second final for Bechem United in the FA cup. Their first and only final was in 2016 where they defeated lower tier side Okwahu United. For Hearts of Oak, this would be their 16 final in the competition. The only teams they have lost a final to in this competition is their arch rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko in (1958, 1960 and 2017), Real Republicans in 1962, Dumas GTP in 1976 and their Mantse rivals, Accra great Olympics in 1995. Aside these four teams, Hearts of Oak have never lost an FA Cup finals to any team.

With Heart of Oak’s poor form in their last round of matches in the just ended Premier league after losing their last four matches, this is the perfect time to make amends, and bring joy to their supporters. Anything shot of triumph in this game will sum their season as disastrous.

For Bechem United, they’ve had a good season after placing third in the league, and winning the FA Cup will be an icing on the cake for them.

Bechem United started their journey in the round of 64 with a trip to Obuasi Len Cley sports stadium, where they defeated fellow premier league giants Ashantigold by 2 goals to 1 to book a place in the round of 32 with premier league debutants Bibiani Goldstars. In the last four, they faced the fire boys, Aduana Stars at Duns park in Bechem where they recorded a 2:0 victory to book a place in the finals.

In the first semi final game of the season, they defeated Dreams FC by 3:2

Both teams have had a similar stats in their journey to the final. Bechem United have scored 13 goals and conceded 6 in their previous round of matches. Heart of Oak have also scored 12 and conceded 6 in the journey. In the Premier League, they shared the spoils in both matches, 1:1 at Bechem and 0:0 at Accra. This makes this worthy final. We wish both teams good luck and all the best. May the best team win.
